The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has announced it is issuing over $126 million in refunds to nearly 1 million Fortnite players in the United States. These refunds come as part of a settlement with Epic Games after the company was accused of charging players for unwanted in-game purchases and locking accounts that disputed charges.

Why Is the FTC Issuing Refunds?

According to the FTC, Epic Games violated consumer protection laws by allowing unauthorized charges, particularly from children, and penalizing users who attempted to reverse these transactions. The settlement prohibits Epic from locking users out of accounts for disputing charges and requires them to obtain clear consent before processing purchases.
